Progress on the reconstruction of the Athens Blacktop Road (CH 2) from the intersection of Tice Road and Cantrall Road to just pass Berkshire Road has fallen behind schedule. Sub-base drainage problems and weather have been difficult. Placement of hot mix asphalt had to be suspended in order to correct the sub-base problems. Cut through traffic continues to hampered construction efforts and endangered the safety of the workers. If weather cooperates we anticipate opening up the road sometime during the 2nd half of October. Now Early November
Please note the road is closed to traffic. Closed roads restrict all private and commercial vehicle traffic for their safety and the safety of the workers. People who live inside the closed area have been given special access to their homes. It is unlawful for any person to remove barricades or signs, or to deface or injure them, or to drive upon any part of the closed road. Drivers who go into or through the closed road may not only become stranded, they will be held liable for any damages to the road, utilities or the contractor’s equipment. The Menard County Sheriff asks that all citizens cooperate during the road closure and states that citations will be issued to drivers who violate the road closure.
