Hello, I am searching for a website to reach theHurley Funeral Homes 122 West Douglas Ave. Petersburg, Ill. 62675. I have been researching my Smith family relatives from Illinois for many years now and was recently sent pics of my grandma/pa's headstone in Greenwood West Cemetery in Tallula. born in Tallula and was enrolled in the first christian church cradle roll in 1938. I'm interessted in locating all of the cemeteries in Tallula in search of my grandfathers gravesite. His name was edgar jones and I vaguely remember he was buried at the top of a hillslope that crossed sideways over a railroad crossing at the bottom of the hill.

3rd Annual Petersburg Community-Wide Block Party! We are so excited as we begin our plans for our 3rd Annual Community Wide Block Party. We can only take credit for the success of the last two years because of your support and encouragement. When we started two years ago, we were hoping for an event where all members of the community could come together and celebrate being a part of the Petersburg/Porta Community. We have always prided ourselves on the fact that this is a totally free event. This year our Block Party will be held on May 14 from 5 – 8 p.m. on the Dairy Queen parking lot. There will be a menu of Hot Dogs, Baked Beans, Potato Chips and Drinks. We will also have sno-cones, popcorn and cotton candy. There will be rides and games for the kids, including the inflatable bounce house, basketball throw, dunk tank and more. There will be special games for the smaller children. A craft table and pre-registration for Vacation Bible School will also be available along with live entertainment including several performances by the Discipling Puppets. All those who come are also put in drawings that will be randomly given away throughout the night. As I stated earlier, we could not have had the great successes in the past without your help. Therefore we are asking your help once again, if you could contribute prizes for the drawings, contributions for the food or even monetary donations to help out, we would be honored. We also hope that you would allow us to put up signs promoting this event at your business location. Hello: I'm researching my family lineage which has roots in various areas of Illinois (my parents are from Springfield though). My paternal grandfather was born in Fancy Prairie (Ivey Jackson Key) and my grandmother was born in Petersburg(Margaret Foster Cordery). My maternal grandfather (Guy Nelson Adkinson)was born in Henry and grandmother (Ethel Matilda Brown) was born in Streator. What I'm checking on now is for information on my paternal great grandfather, Thomas Key. He was born in Virgina, married (Louvina Coffey)in Petersburg, and he died in Croft Station, IL in 1898. I ordered a book entitiled "Menard County Church History" and saw only the name, Thomas Key, listed as being an elder or preacher who had served at the Tallula Christian Church. So, I'm trying to find someone who may know how I can verify if this was my great grandfather and get more information about him. Thank you.

I read with great interest the prior messages. What a great site to use to locate relatives, find old friends, etc. I attended Petersburg-Harris High from 1951 - 1953. My father, Virgil Leonard was the Methodist Minister there from 1951 - about 1959. I will be attending our 50th HS Class Reunion on Sept. 20th. It is nice to know that as far away from home, as I am , I can still, see pictures of where i grew up. I am looking for people who know the connection of the Eilers and the Ritterbushs. Anyone who might have information about them. They had a farm west of town about 8 miles. My grandparents had a three story white house a brock from Douglas next door to the Turners, and close to the Dirks with three porches on it. I worked in Petersburg two summers at the Great American People Show near 1990-1991. I regard Petersburg as one of my most happy memories. My Dad was born in petersburg in 1904.My Grandmother was Ameila Hinman,she passed away in 1966 and is buried in Rosehill.The Hinmans go back in petersburg to about 1860. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of our friends and family back in Petersburg. Our 2 year stay out on this little Island is finally over. We are heading back to the good Ole United States of America on the 14th of Jan. Our new home will be in Shreveport, Louisiana. I will be stationed at Barksdale AFB and working on the B-52 Bombers. It has been raining here for about 4 weeks. And the winds are really bad this year. But for the most part we have really enjoyed our stay here on the Island of Terciera, and have made lots of friends with the local Portuguese people. We will surely miss them. I was born and raised in Menard County and still have family living in the area - the VanEmans and Heyens. I went to Athens High School and visited often. Have many fond memories of Petersburg and New Salem State Historic Site. My father was born (1894) and raised in Petersburg, as were his brothers and sister. All the violence that has been happening at these schools are a direct result of taking JESUS out of schools and letting the TV raise the kids. The children that watch TV violence get desensitized to the violence. When you kick GOD out of things those things fall apart. Besides that when the constitution says separation of church and state. Hello to everybody back in Petersburg. We are now living in the Azores. They are situated about 900 miles off the coast of Portugal. Its a 5 hour time difference from Central. We live in a small village called Porto Martins on the South eastern edge of the Island of Terciera. We see the Ocean from the house. It's mainly a farming community. Lots of milk cows roaming the hills and the roads. The speed limit is about 45mh. The Island is 18 miles long and 10 miles wide. There are about 50,000 people on Terciera and only two stop lights. Imagine the chaos. They have Bull fighting in the City of Angra. And they also have the running of the Bulls in just about every village. We can't wait for the excitement. The weather has been great. 60's in the day and high 50's at night. Rains off and on. We hope our families get to come over and visit. Jeff and Bernie

My Great Grandfather, Johannes Rebbe immigrated to the Petersburg Area in 1850. My wife and I visited the town he came from this summer. Herbram, Westfalia, Germany. We found many Rebbe's in the area but as we do not speak german we were unable to verify that we were related to them. Herbram is a small farming town. Do any of the Rebbe's in the area have information about German ancestors. My father, Charles C. Rebbe was a son of John Rebbe who was a son of Johannes Rebbe. I visited New Salem and Bobtown in 1962 and my brother Owen Rebbe and his wife attended The Rebbe reunion three years ago. Drop a line if you have any information about Rebbe relatives in Germany. Was in Petersburg the first week of June. Mom and Dad had their Big 40th. The weather was really cool. When we left Texas it was 105, and only in the 60's there in Petersburg. I am inpressed with my hometown site. I am a 1976 graduate of PORTA High. President of the Carlsbad, NM Board of Education and Internet Service Provider here in New Mexico. Hello to everybody in Petersburg. I am currently TDY to Beautiful Germany. I got her on the 25 of Jan. and Hope to be back in Abilene, Texas before the 15th of March. My Unit is deployed over here in support of Bosnia. Our C-130H Aircraft fly missions in and out of former Yugoslovia. The weather has been really nice. Up in the 50's and sometimes the lower 60's. After my first visit to this web page, I began a "trip down memory lane". This included the name of Judy Parks from the Central Presbyterian Church. We used to see each other at Sunday School when I was in town visiting my grandparents. (Lucy and Cissel Young and Laura VanEman) Also found a photo of my cousin Ed Young in the New Salem area photos. During our early years, Grandma and Grandpa Young were at New Salem as he directed the restoration of the village. My husband and I also keep up on the Petersburg news through visitors to Florida.
